About

I’m an editor, writer and photographer with seven years experience covering news in B.C.’s Interior. When I’m not gathering the latest news, I’m likely mucking about in the garden, collecting eggs from his chickens or hoofing it up another trail.

My writing has evolved to get into local food issues, seen through a greenneck perspective.

According to the Urban Dictionary, a greeneck is defined as:

1. greenneck 20 up2 down
An environmentalist who practices ‘traditional’ outdoor skills and pursuits (hunting/fishing/winemaking, etc) on the grounds that they represent a more sustainable local alternative to industrial agriculture. The word’s origin is rooted in someone who acts like a redneck, for “green” motives.
“I never figured that greenneck would be able to fit an elk his shot with the bow and arrow into the back of his hybrid Prius, but he ‘got-er-dun’”.

So how does that express itself in my writing and life? I like to hunt and garden and am learning how to butcher animals.

I’m also the managing editor for the Inthekoots Network, specifically running News in the Kootenays and the Nelson Post.
